This code of conduct is written to make sure we are all on the same page about our values when we come into a shared space - as we are a diverse community with various expectations and experiences.
Our "utopia" is built on mutual respect. We ask all attendees to take an active bystander approach.
When you witness racism, transphobia, ableism or other forms of discrimination, you can use these five methods to intervene:
Direct: Speak up immediately. State that the behaviour is not okay.
Distract: Create a diversion to interrupt the interaction (e.g., asking for the time or starting a different conversation with the target).
Delegate: Ask for help from event staff, security, or another attendee.
Delay: Check in with the person who was targeted after the incident to offer support.
Document: Record or take notes of what happened (with the survivor's consent) to help with reporting.
If we witness racism, transphobia, and ableism. Your attendance signifies your commitment to these values.
Bi Camp is run entirely by volunteers. To keep our ticket costs affordable, we ask all attendees to complete a short volunteer shift during the event.
Assignment: Roles are assigned based on personal preference and taking into account disabilities, levels of comfort with certain tasks etc there is something for everyone!
Purpose: This commitment by each attendee helps keep costs low and fosters community building, shares the labor between everyone - not just a few who get burnt out
Agreement: By purchasing a ticket, you agree to fulfill your assigned role to the best of your ability.
Some examples of tasks may include:
Prepping vegetables for a shared lunch
Signing people in
Sweeping floors
Emptying bins
Showing people to their rooms
